And now for the truly moronic.... |
|
|
BF3, one of this year hotest PC titles will NOT have an ingame browser for multiplayer servers???!!!!
See here for information.
I am sorry but that seems utterly moronic to me. If you are in a sever and want to leave you need to either exit out of the game entirely or ALT TAB to the browser to pic another server.
That is going to get annoying especially on release day and soon after as servers will fill up quickly. Getting hit with a "server full" message will not require a few more steps to get "back in the game".
I don't like it.

More From Steam vs. EA |
|
|
There is an interesting article over at tomshardware, concerning EA removing some of their games, and not releasing others, on Steam.
Read the article Valve Wants EA's Games Back on Steam and let me know what you think!
It appears, in my opinion, that Gabe Newell of Steam, is trying to get EA "back in the fold".
EA pulling their products (not all just frankly the "good ones") seems to have gotten Steam and Gabe a bit nervous.
If EA is successful with this move it could be very damaging for the long term survivability of Steam.

Diablo 3 To have "Real World" Auction House |
|
|
I find this development really interesting.
It seems that Blizzard is attempting to latch on to the "Ebay Culture" by having a player driven auction house in Diablo 3 where items will sell for real money.
Here is a story about it on pcgamer.com.
I find this very interesting, and I wonder when the government, i.e. the IRS, will get involved. There have been several stories over the years about the government thinking of taxing in game items... I wonder if this moves them one step closer since at least in D3 these items will have real world value.
Here is an interesting article in the Yale Law Journal that talks about taxing virtual items.
I wonder if D3's decision changes this point of view?
It will be interesting to follow this story.

BF3- Not On Steam |
|
|
By now it is really no surprise that Steam will not carry BF3 as confirmed by EA.
The list of retailers and be found here
While I know there are a lot of people who love Steam, and I am one of them, I don't understand why so many people are hating EA for creating the competitive service Origin.
Frankly I think that Steam had better look long and hard at their business plan, especially if more publisher's go the way of EA.

Battlefield 3 |
|
|
EA's latest version in its Battlefield series, Battlefield 3 is due to be released on October 25, 2011.
I have watched all of the official teaser videos on the main site and the graphics and scope of this game appear to be truly epic.
My favorite trailer is Thunder Run which features a tank battle in a desert environment.
If squad sized engagements are more your "thing" than check out Fault Line part1 and Fault Line part 2 and Part 3.
EA has also announced in various interviews that the game will have a demo out before the release.
Having spent 4 years working with America's Army Game Project I am biased towards "army themed" titles, so I will definitely be watching this game closely as the release date nears.

WOW To go Free To Play.... |
|
|
As reported at Games Beat WOW will be free to play for the first 20 levels
This seems to be the way that a lot of MMOs are or will be going in the future.
I think this is a good move in general by companies. The old model, 7-14 day trials with a credit card, scared a lot of potential new customers away.
The name of the game in business is "new customers". This is no less true when talking about MMOs. Even though World of Warcraft has been wildly successful, the competition to get new customers has been growing stronger with other titles such as Lord of The Ring Online and DDO going Free to play.
I suspect that before to long Blizzard will increase the F2P level cap and add in a WOW Store where you can by ingame items via micro-transactions.
What do you think?

Star Wars Galaxy Closing... |
|
|
Well.... nothing lasts forever....
It was noted on the official SWG forums that Star Wars Galaxy will close on December 15, 2011
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/...opic_id=1220357
I started playing SWG back in June of 2005, and while I have not played in like a year... I still had a lot of fun.
The game sure had its problems... the NGE or "New Game Experience" for one.
The NGE was Sony's attempt to make the game more "fast paced" and "simple for the masses". The problem with that was is that many people played SWG for its complexity from its varied skill trees to crafting.
I will always remember playing SWG with my buddy Ryan, who died tragically a year ago.
I was a Bounty Hunter in SWG and frankly, hunting Jedi player characters was the most intense experiences I have had online... My heart would race, and I would start to get nervous when I first saw my mark.
I won some bounties lost a few but always had fun.
I would say the dev team for Galaxies would feel the same way about their run with SWG.
Here is a picture of me on my BARC... This was an early character I had... I later changed to a human.

Yer eyes.....
Think of your worst memory.....
Listen to this clip...
You will feel better..... I am not particularly an emotional man... but knowing the play "Les Misérables" and the meaning behind this song... makes this the most incredible thing I have seen to date on the web... truly..... honestly...
Really....

This article makes me proud to be an American.

For the lazy ones here is the juice of it:
American charitable giving to the needy is recession proof, since even in those tough times the charity monies keep going to the ones hardest hit .
way to go USA
